Mission Statement:

"It is the mission of the Broome County Soil & Water Conservation District to assist citizens and units of local government in making sound decisions concerning the management of soil, water, and related natural resources"

Assisting with the County's Natural Resources

ABOUT US:

The Broome County Soil & Water Conservation District is the lead agency for nonpoint source pollution abatement, municipal stormwater assistance, technical planning and grant writing for natural resource issues, and the design and implementation of agricultural Best Management Practices in the County. Property owners may receive technical information as it pertains to soil, water and other natural resource issues on their property.

The District is operated by four full-time staff:

Executive Director - Charles McElwee
Secretary/Asst. Treasurer - Holly Lurenz
Grazing Specialist - Justin Puglisi
Natural Resource Asst. - Derek Green

The District is governed by a Board of Directors. The current members:

Mario Nirchi, County Legislator
Ronald Keibel, County Legislator
Lester Price, Farm Bureau
David Bradstreet, Grange
Barbara Hemedinger, Member at Large
Michael Donahue, Member at Large
Gerald Urda, Member at Large

The Natural Resources Conservation Service works closely with the SWCD on many project & activities. The NRCS staff located in Broome County are:
